Umit, a female Amur tiger, was released into Kazakhstan's Ile-Balkhash Nature Reserve as part of a program aimed at restoring the population of the species, which had been absent from central Asia for a century. This marks the first tiger release in the region in 70 years.

Umit was among four Amur tigers transferred from Russia. Her adaptation to the new habitat will be closely monitored before a decision is made regarding the release of the remaining three tigers. The initiative seeks to bring back the Amur tiger, a rare species, to its historical range.
