An Italian court has sentenced American national Francis Kaufmann, 47, to life in prison for the murders of his partner, Anastasia Trofimova, 28, and their infant daughter, Andromeda, who was nearly a year old. The bodies were discovered in Rome's Villa Pamphili park in June 2025.
Kaufmann fled to the Greek island of Skiathos following the killings and was extradited to Italy to face trial. He has denied committing the murders. Trofimova's body was found concealed under a black bag, and the infant was discovered in nearby undergrowth. Investigators determined that the infant had died several days after her mother.
Kaufmann, who identified himself as a filmmaker and used the alias Rexal Ford, had been involved in a scheme to secure $1 million in Italian tax credits for a film that was never produced. This film funding scandal led to the resignation of the head of the Culture Ministry’s film department.
