Alexandra 'Lal' Mann, the owner of the historic Elephant Bridge Hotel in Victoria, Australia, died on July 5 following an illness. She was 44 years old.

Ms. Mann, who leaves behind her husband Charlie and their three young sons, was a prominent figure in the local community. The Elephant Bridge Hotel, a bluestone pub with a 180-year history, had been owned by Ms. Mann and her husband for approximately four years. They were forced to sell the establishment in May due to Ms. Mann's health issues.

Tributes shared by family and friends on social media described Ms. Mann as a "beautiful young mother" whose "grace, kindness, and gentle spirit touched so many lives." Some noted that while cancer took her too soon, the memories she created would endure. Another described her as "an angel on Earth."

Sky News host Rita Panahi also paid tribute to Ms. Mann on Instagram, posting a picture of her funeral booklet with the caption, "RIP beautiful Lal."

Historic Pub and Its Legends

The Elephant Bridge Hotel, located in Darlington, Victoria, is one of the state's oldest pubs. Beyond its long tradition of serving travelers, the hotel is known for its ghost stories, which have contributed to its mystique over the decades. Local lore includes tales of the spirit of former publican Adeline Eliza Satchwell, who died in 1943 after a 54-year tenure and is said to watch over patrons from an upper window. Visitors have also reported encounters with the spirits of a young man and woman, and a girl who reportedly drowned in the pub's well.

Ms. Mann's death was noted in The Age's obituary pages, with a celebration of her life held on July 15 in Derrinallum.
