A resident of Aberdeen, Scotland, has expressed his devastation after flash floods in his native Nepal resulted in the deaths of his brother, uncle, and cousin. Barun Lamichhane shared that his immediate family members were among the victims of the disaster that swept through the village of Betrawati.
Lamichhane recounted being woken by his sister, who informed him of the widespread destruction in their village. "I was sleeping and my sister woke me up and said 'in our village there is nothing - like everything is gone'," he told BBC Scotland News. "At that time, I'm just a blank, I can't even think."
He fears that many friends and neighbors were also lost in the flooding, in addition to his direct relatives. Despite the tragic loss, Lamichhane confirmed that his parents and grandmother survived the incident. Images of the aftermath show mud-covered houses and roads in affected areas of Nepal, illustrating the force of the flash floods.
