A 97-year-old woman, Guna Maya Bohara, is recovering in hospital after being rescued from flood debris in Nepal. Her great-nephew, Dipak Bohara, described her appearance after the rescue as being like "a warrior" who had returned victorious from battle.

The rescue operation to free Bohara from the rubble of her care home took four hours and required the use of an excavator. Dipak Bohara had traveled from Kathmandu to assist in the rescue of his great-aunt.

Wednesday's flash floods have resulted in hundreds of confirmed deaths. Scientists believe the floods were triggered by a glacier collapse in the Himalayan border region with Tibet.
