A 23-year-old mother of a toddler was allegedly shot and killed by a man known to her in what authorities are calling a domestic violence incident on Queensland's Gold Coast. The victim has been identified as Mallorie Roberts.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on Sunday at an apartment on Loder Street in Biggera Waters. Police were called to the scene where Roberts was pronounced dead. |
The alleged assailant, who has not been publicly identified, is known to Roberts. He has been charged with one count each of murder (domestic violence) and unlawful possession of a category H weapon used to commit an indictable offense (domestic violence). He is scheduled to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
Roberts was the mother of a 2-year-old son named Tyson. Sources indicate the child was not present at the residence during the incident. |
Following the tragedy, Roberts' mother, Felicity, posted an emotional message on Facebook expressing her grief and love for her daughter. "I love you I want to hold you and not let you go my beautiful sweetheart my beautiful daughter," she wrote. |
Neighbors described being shocked by the incident, with one neighbor recalling a recent conversation with Roberts' father who had expressed concern about people in her life. "Her father told me she just needs to get the 'riff-raff' out of her life," the neighbor stated.
Another neighbor, Sharon Burgess, reported hearing a commotion around 8 p.m. and seeing a man emerge from the unit requesting an ambulance. Burgess called emergency services and was guided on how to perform CPR until paramedics arrived. |
Roberts had resided at the Biggera Waters apartment for approximately one year. |
Friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and to support her son, Tyson. In a statement shared on the fundraising page, a friend described Roberts as a "beautiful young mum" whose life was "taken far too soon in a devastating act of [alleged] domestic violence." The friend added that Roberts "leaves behind her precious son, Tyson, a loving sister, and a family whose lives have been changed forever." |
The crime scene on Monday morning showed men's shoes and a gold vape. |
