Senator Susan Collins has accused Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party of flooding the airwaves with attack ads containing "outright lies" as she seeks reelection in Maine.
Speaking on Fox News, Collins stated she has "never seen a campaign with so many outright lies," asserting that Democrats are following Schumer's playbook by disseminating false advertisements that are nearly identical to those used against other Republican candidates.
One particularly egregious ad, Collins noted, falsely linked her to Jeffrey Epstein. She discovered that two colleagues in tight races were targeted with virtually identical ads. "This is part of Chuck Schumer's playbook," she said, adding, "It's very frustrating."
Collins contends that Democrats are attempting to shift the focus away from local issues and nationalize the race between herself and Democratic challenger Troy Jackson. The latest Fox News poll shows the Maine Senate race tied at 49%.
Despite the contentious advertising, Collins emphasized her bipartisan record and independent stance, presenting herself as a centrist willing to work across the aisle. She pushed back against claims of close alignment with former President Donald Trump, stating that a broader analysis of her voting record shows she has voted against the president's policies 138 times.
Collins expressed optimism about her reelection chances, citing positive responses from communities across Maine. She positioned herself as one of the most independent senators, whose decisions are guided by her own judgment rather than party affiliation or the occupant of the White House.
