An elderly woman was discovered dead in a community pool in Hoover, Alabama, on September 3. Police have arrested a 30-year-old acquaintance, Anastasia Tsefia Sudarsana, charging her with one count of murder.

The victim, 70, was found unresponsive in the pool on Little Valley Road around 9:32 p.m. after a 911 call. First responders attempted to save her life but were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined the incident was a homicide after locating physical evidence indicating a struggle preceded the woman's death. Detectives identified Sudarsana as a person of interest near the scene and determined she was an acquaintance of the deceased, though the specific nature of their relationship has not been detailed.

According to local reports, Sudarsana is an orphan from Ukraine who was adopted by an American family as a child. She has been transferred to the Jefferson County Jail and is being held without bond.

The Jefferson County Coroner and Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine the official cause and manner of death. Evidence from the case has been submitted to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Birmingham. A motive for the alleged homicide has not yet been disclosed.
