An Arizona mother is asserting her husband's innocence after he was accused of orchestrating a home invasion and sexual assault attempt against her.
Bella Torres defended her husband, Zarian Dyer, 23, in court, claiming he was being framed by the alleged attacker, Adrian Ayala, 20. The incident occurred on October 16, when police say Ayala broke into the couple's home in Buckeye, Arizona, and attempted to sexually assault Torres while she was holding their infant daughter. Security footage showed Dyer chasing Ayala away when he arrived home.
Ayala was arrested the following day. However, Dyer was subsequently arrested on October 29, with authorities alleging they found evidence that Dyer had plotted the attack against his wife. Prosecutors stated that messages found on Reddit indicated Dyer had provided Ayala with instructions on how to enter the home, the timing of the assault, and where to park nearby. Dyer allegedly instructed Ayala to conduct a FaceTime call during the attack.
Torres testified that she does not believe the allegations against her husband, suggesting Ayala was attempting to set Dyer up with false accusations to excuse his own actions after his arrest. She described her husband as dealing with false allegations while incarcerated but did not directly address the digital evidence presented by prosecutors.
According to police reports, Ayala claimed Dyer had invited him to the home for "role play" through an online arrangement. Ayala reportedly provided devices showing communication between himself and Dyer concerning the planned assault. Police stated they have not yet determined a motive for the alleged plot but believe Dyer instructed Ayala to conduct a FaceTime call during the incident.
Torres recounted that she was alerted to her home's security sensor indicating her front door was opening. Believing it was her partner, she and her daughter went to the door, only to find a stranger. Ayala, who initially asked to use the restroom, allegedly barged in and attacked Torres when she refused. She managed to fight him off and chase him out of the home before Dyer arrived, prompting Ayala to flee.
Authorities confirmed Torres suffered only minor injuries. Ayala faces charges including kidnapping, sexual abuse, burglary, and aggravated assault. Dyer remains in custody on a $500,000 bond, facing charges of aggravated assault, sexual abuse, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, and conspiracy.
