Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has pledged her support for Abdul El-Sayed, the winner of the state's Democratic U.S. Senate primary, despite having previously endorsed his opponent, U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens. El-Sayed secured the Democratic nomination and will now face Republican Mike Rogers in the general election.

"Congratulations to Jocelyn Benson, Abdul El-Sayed, and every Democrat who won up and down the ballot in this primary," Whitmer posted on X. "They’ve got my support as we fight like hell together to win in November. Together, let’s stop MAGA Republicans so we can get to work and deliver results for the people of Michigan."

El-Sayed narrowly defeated Stevens by approximately 1% of the vote. Following the results, Stevens also offered her congratulations and support to El-Sayed. "I spoke with Abdul a few moments ago to offer him my full support as we work to defeat Mike Rogers this November," Stevens wrote on X. "Thank you, Michigan."

El-Sayed shared Stevens' post, stating, "Putting your hand up to participate in democracy is no easy thing. Thank you for running, Congresswoman. Looking forward to uniting this fall to beat Mike Rogers. Because what unites us is so much bigger than what divides us."

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, who lost the 2024 Michigan U.S. Senate race, is again seeking the Senate seat.
