U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz recounted a confrontation at the United Nations where he alleges a Cuban diplomat shoved a member of his staff and knocked a phone out of their hand. Waltz stated on "The Sunday Briefing" that the incident occurred before Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the expulsion of the Cuban official from the United States.
Waltz described the event as a moment where he believed the situation was escalating towards a physical altercation. He accused the Cuban diplomat of attempting to pressure UN staff to cut off his microphone during a speech on the floor of the UN General Assembly. According to Waltz, the Cuban Foreign Minister then approached the podium, seeking to interrupt his remarks.
During his speech, Waltz presented images intended to highlight the wealth of Cuban leaders, including photos of former President Fidel Castro's private island and jet, as well as luxury items enjoyed by current officials. He argued that the Cuban government uses the UN for propaganda and to deflect blame.
Waltz referenced a report by Senator Marco Rubio titled "Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism," which he said details Cuban espionage and influence operations in the United States. Waltz further alleged that the Cuban regime exports its Marxist ideology through leftist groups and politicians within the U.S.
Waltz expressed his belief that the Cuban people will experience freedom during President Trump's term.
