Whataburger has launched a new "More for $4" value menu, entering the intensifying fast-food price war as chains compete for increasingly price-sensitive customers.
The new menu features four smaller versions of popular Whataburger items, each priced at $4. These include the Bacon & Cheese Whataburger Jr., the Whataburger Patty Melt Jr., the Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich Jr., and the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Strip Sandwich Jr. Prices and participation may vary by location.
A small fry and a small drink can be added to any $4 item for an additional $3, bringing the total cost of a meal to $7 before tax. This move aims to provide more affordable options for customers seeking to enjoy the chain's made-to-order quality.
Across the fast-food industry, value deals have become a significant strategy. Burger King has also been emphasizing value in its offerings. Major chains are rolling out discounted meals, value menus, app-only promotions, and limited-time offers to attract diners amidst rising restaurant prices.
Restaurant menu prices increased by 3.4 percent year over year in June, according to the National Restaurant Association, marking the slowest annual increase in 17 months. Prices at limited-service restaurants, which include most fast-food chains, rose 3.1 percent in the same period.
Value and discount menus are a major motivator for customers, with 66 percent of weekly quick-service restaurant customers citing these as reasons for their dining choices, according to YouGov data reported by Nation's Restaurant News. This highlights the importance of affordability in consumer decisions.
Whataburger, founded in Texas in 1950, operates over 1,200 restaurants in 17 states. The company is currently celebrating eight decades in business.
