The United States economy experienced a robust expansion in the third quarter, defying economic headwinds and surpassing forecasts. The Commerce Department reported that gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an annualized rate of 3.4 percent between July and September, a significant acceleration from the 2.2 percent growth recorded in the preceding quarter.

This marks the fastest economic growth the U.S. has seen in nearly three years, with the last comparable growth rate of 3.4 percent occurring in the final quarter of 2023. GDP is a comprehensive measure of the total value of all goods and services produced within the U.S. over a specific period.

Consumer spending also proved to be a strong contributor to the economy during the third quarter. This growth occurred despite rising oil prices and ongoing geopolitical conflicts.
