The University of Mississippi is investigating an incident captured on a Ring camera that appears to show several white female students making racist monkey noises outside an apartment shared by Black students. The footage, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked significant online backlash and prompted the university to launch a probe.

The video, time-stamped November 6, 2026, at approximately 8:37 p.m., shows three white women walking past an apartment. One woman is seen beating her chest and making monkey noises, while a second woman makes similar sounds directed at the camera. A third woman walks by while looking at the apartment door.

The footage was shared on TikTok by Ole Miss student Jakiyra Metcalf, who stated that the women in the video are her upstairs neighbors. The video quickly garnered millions of views, with thousands of comments calling for the university to take action.

A mother of one of the Black students in the apartment shared the video on Facebook, expressing her disgust and demanding answers. She emphasized that college should be a safe environment for learning and growth.

The university released a statement acknowledging awareness of the video, calling the depicted behaviors "offensive, hurtful, and unacceptable." The statement added that the university has contacted the targeted individuals to offer support and resources. "We are committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors and will follow our processes to ensure the well-being and safety of our community," a university representative said.

While social media users have attempted to identify the individuals involved, their identities have not been officially confirmed. The university has not commented further on the specifics of its investigation.
