A small plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a busy road in North Fort Myers, Florida, on Saturday, clipping the back of a pickup truck in the process. The incident occurred around noon on Bayshore Road near Interstate 75.
Video footage shows the aircraft touching down on the asphalt and traveling along the road before its wing makes contact with the pickup truck, which was heading eastbound. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, there were two pilots aboard the plane, which had departed from Sebring, Florida, approximately 50 minutes earlier.
Authorities reported that no injuries occurred as a result of the landing or the subsequent collision. Images shared by the sheriff's office depict the small plane on the roadway following the event.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno commented on the outcome, stating, "Thankfully, this incident had a positive outcome, and no one was injured." He also noted that the close call occurred amid recent tragic aviation accidents, expressing gratitude for the safety of all involved.
Deputies, the Florida Department of Transportation, and Bayshore Fire Rescue were credited for their swift response. The Federal Aviation Administration is heading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the forced landing.
This incident occurred less than a week after a Learjet crashed in Greenacres, Florida, on November 1, resulting in the deaths of all nine individuals on board. Federal investigators are also examining that crash.
