Cleveland Police have launched a murder investigation after two people died in a house fire in Grangetown, Middlesbrough. Officers were called to the property in the early hours of the morning.

Authorities are keeping an open mind regarding the circumstances and have not ruled out potential links to wider organized crime. A woman remains in critical condition in the hospital, and three other individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred approximately two miles from a separate fatal crash on the A66 that resulted in the deaths of five young men and two police officers on Saturday morning.

Redcar and Cleveland Local Policing Commander Supt Emily Harrison stated that the force is actively working to establish the precise events leading to the fire. The families of those involved have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.
