Authorities have arrested a 13-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man in connection with a gang-fueled shooting that wounded a 12-year-old girl in the Bronx last month. Both individuals face attempted murder and gun possession charges related to the Oct. 10 incident in Westchester Square.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. in a park on Tratman Avenue. The victim, who was on her way to meet a friend, sustained gunshot wounds to her stomach and right foot. According to law enforcement sources, the gunmen opened fire after spotting rivals and shouting a chant associated with the Makk Ballas, a street gang affiliated with the Bloods.

The injured girl was transported to Montefiore Hospital by a bystander. She underwent surgery for her abdominal wounds, which included perforations to her colon, and also received treatment for a fractured right foot. The victim was three days away from her birthday at the time of the shooting.

The 13-year-old suspect's name has not been released due to his age, and his case is being handled in Family Court. The other arrested suspect, Destin Burgess, 26, has a prior arrest for gun possession in August 2025. Burgess was ordered held on $15,000 bail or $45,000 bond.

While neither of the arrested individuals is accused of firing the shots, according to a court complaint, the suspected gunman and at least one other individual remain at large. Police recovered a Palmetto Armory pistol and seven live 9mm cartridges near the scene. Burgess's next court appearance is scheduled for Friday before a grand jury.
