Republican Rep. Nick LaLota has won re-election to represent New York's 1st Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Chris Gallant. LaLota, the incumbent, claimed victory on Tuesday night, leading Gallant by approximately two percentage points, with 51% of the vote to Gallant's 49%, according to Newsday.

LaLota, 48, has held the Long Island seat since 2022. His campaign focused on themes of supporting law enforcement, border security, tax reduction, and opposing what he described as the Democratic Party's "march toward socialism."

In his victory speech, LaLota thanked his constituents for their trust and pledged to work diligently on their behalf, stating, "And for those who didn’t vote for me, I want you to know something — I am your congressman too."

Gallant, 37, conceded the race on Wednesday evening, trailing LaLota by roughly 7,000 votes. He acknowledged the voters' decision and suggested that the close result indicated dissatisfaction with the status quo on Long Island. Gallant's campaign platform centered on reducing the cost of living, ensuring affordable healthcare, and investing in infrastructure to address coastal flooding and extreme weather.

The race gained significant attention in September when The Post reported on photos of Gallant modeling in bondage gear for a fetish shop. Gallant, a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the Army National Guard and volunteer firefighter, had previously acknowledged his past involvement and used the resurfaced images in his campaign, even running an advertisement with the slogan "make politics sexy again." In an interview with The New York Times, he compared himself to Christian Grey from "50 Shades of Grey," stating, "I make Christian Grey look like amateur hour."

LaLota secured his third consecutive term in the NY-01 district, a seat rated "solid" Republican by the Cook Political Report.
