President Trump conveyed optimism regarding the resolution of the six-month-old war with Iran, asserting that the conflict would conclude "fine and dandy" and that Iran had been "pushed back." These remarks were made in Dublin during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin on September 12, 2026.
Trump indicated that Iran was likely responsible for recent drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's East-West Pipeline, which necessitated a shutdown of the vital oil artery. The attacks reportedly originated from Iraq, an area where Iran holds considerable influence. "I think they are, probably they are. They are on the balls of their feet right now," Trump stated regarding Iran's position.
The President also commented on the actions of the Houthis, who recently occupied Perim Island, a strategically important location at the entrance to the Red Sea, a crucial shipping route. Trump mentioned that the Houthis had communicated with the U.S., expressing a desire to avoid conflict and a preference for the U.S. not to be involved. "They don’t want us to go after them and would much prefer not having us involved and they’re letting most ships go through, it’s just one country they’re not too happy with. And we’ll get that straightened out," he said.
Following his meeting in Dublin, Trump was scheduled to travel to his golf resort in Doonbeg, County Clare, to attend the Irish Open.
