President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa for the mother of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old immigrant from Ghana who was fatally shot in the Bronx last week, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Saturday.

"The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away," Mamdani wrote on X. "Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately."

Frimpong, who moved to the Bronx from Ghana a year ago, was shot in the abdomen on Thursday morning while on his way to school. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, which remains under investigation.

Mamdani stated, "All of New York City is mourning this tragedy." U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., echoed the sentiment, saying, "Our entire borough is mourning a young man who should have had his whole future ahead of him."

Frimpong's father, Thomas Frimpong, told reporters that his son had been bullied at school days before the shooting. The Ghanaian Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that Ghanaian officials in New York are coordinating with local authorities and that the government will cover the mother's travel costs.

"Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi’s pain as a loving mother is unimaginable and indeed everything must be done to ensure she is present to pay her respects," Ablakwa said on X. He added that the Ghanaian government "will take care of the full cost of Madam Adu Gyamfi’s travels and also stands ready to contribute towards a dignifying funeral."

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for comment. Trump and Mamdani had previously met at Gracie Mansion in September 2026.
