Travis Kelce was involved in a legal dispute concerning the name of his steakhouse in the days leading up to his widely publicized wedding-style celebration with Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden. Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes are defendants in a lawsuit filed in New York federal court. The suit, brought by a sneaker company, alleges that the name of their steakhouse, 1587 Prime, infringes on their own branding.

Sources indicate that Kelce and Mahomes' legal team has argued that they lack sufficient ties to New York to be subject to jurisdiction in the state, citing their primary residence and business operations in Kansas City. However, the plaintiffs, identified as 1587 Sneakers, contend that the NFL stars' participation in national advertising campaigns allows for legal action in New York.

The steakhouse, 1587 Prime, was opened by Kelce and Mahomes in Kansas City in September 2025. The name is derived from a combination of their respective NFL jersey numbers. The Boston-based sneaker company, 1587 Sneakers, asserts that its name is a reference to the year Filipino sailors first arrived in America and that it had trademarked the '1587' designation prior to the steakhouse's establishment. The company is seeking to prevent the NFL players from continuing to use the name.

Kelce's association with Swift has brought increased public attention to his personal and business ventures. The recent celebration at Madison Square Garden, attended by approximately 1,000 guests, featured numerous celebrities from various industries, including Hollywood, music, and sports. Among the attendees were Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, as well as Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

Reid commented on the ceremony, noting that actor Adam Sandler, who officiated the event, advised the couple to "keep kissing." Kelce has had previous interactions with Sandler, including a cameo in the sequel to "Happy Gilmore" and an appearance on Kelce's podcast, "New Heights."
