Newly released bodycam footage from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office shows former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo questioning police and refusing a breathalyzer test during his operating while intoxicated (OWI) arrest on July 23. Romo was stopped on an interstate after playing golf.
In the video, Romo told the arresting officer he was coming from a golf course and insisted he had consumed "zero" drinks. He asked to call his attorney and questioned the officer's suspicion, responding, "Because I'm coming from a golf course, you think I'm drunk?"
The officer stated she observed red, glassy eyes and smelled alcohol emanating from Romo. Following sobriety tests, Romo declined to take a breathalyzer, citing legal advice: "I've heard from all the lawyers don't ever do that."
Romo was cited for first-offense OWI and refusing to submit to a chemical test. He was released and is scheduled to appear in court on September 21. A representative for CBS, where Romo works as a commentator, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2017, Romo has served as a lead color commentator for CBS Sports, calling multiple Super Bowls alongside Jim Nantz. He played for the Cowboys from 2006 to 2015, retiring after an injury led to Dak Prescott taking over as the team's starter.
