Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was cited for possessing an open container in his vehicle during his operating while intoxicated (OWI) arrest in Wisconsin last week. The citation for "possess open intoxicants in MV-Driver" noted an "open bottle of an alcoholic beverage was observed on the passenger side of the vehicle."

Fox News Digital obtained three citations issued to Romo, which also included operating while under the influence and unsafe passing on the right. An inventory of Romo's vehicle was conducted as the 2020 Jeep was being prepared to be towed.

Romo is scheduled to appear in court on September 21. Bodycam footage from the arrest shows Romo telling police he was coming from a golf course and insisted he had consumed "zero" drinks before asking to contact his attorney. When asked to exit the vehicle, Romo questioned the officer, stating, "Because I’m coming from a golf course, you think I’m drunk?"

After completing field sobriety tests, Romo refused to take a breath test, stating, "I've heard from all the lawyers don't ever do that."

Prior to his arrest, Romo had been participating in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship. He subsequently withdrew from the M&P Group Texas State Open. Romo retired from professional football in 2017 and joined CBS as a color commentator. During his NFL career, he threw for 34,183 yards and 248 touchdowns, earning four Pro Bowl selections. He has yet to comment on the arrest.
