Thomas Markle Sr. has been released on bond and will return to the Florida dementia care facility where he was arrested Friday on charges of possession of child pornography. The decision for his release came hours after his arrest, following an agreement between the prosecution and defense during a bond hearing.

Markle, 82, appeared in court in a wheelchair, escorted by two US Marshals. Federal agents took him into custody at the Maravida Senior Living care home in Lakeland, Florida, where he had been residing. The arrest followed an investigation by the FBI, which searched two storage units rented by Markle in the Los Angeles area on October 30 and November 4. Agents reportedly seized approximately 78 items, including material suspected of containing child sexual abuse imagery.

According to a federal criminal complaint, Thomas Sr. allegedly appears in two images alongside an underage girl. The investigation into Markle began in the Philippines after his son, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly turned over alleged child sexual abuse material to local police. At the time, Thomas Sr. denied the claims, calling them "sick lies" in a statement to the Daily Mail.

Days later, reporters for the Daily Mail alleged they found additional materials in Markle's abandoned storage unit in Mexico, including books on pedophilia, magazines depicting child abuse, and photographs of young females. These findings were reportedly reported to the FBI.

Sources indicate that Markle had been diagnosed with dementia and was staying at the care facility, which specializes in dementia care, amidst the investigation. Following the initial allegations, Meghan Markle stated she was "deeply disturbed" by the investigation and noted that other allegations made against her father in 2018 contributed to their estrangement.
