The ceremony was reportedly attended only by Jones and Mills, following claims that Jones had banned his family from the event. Mills had previously accused Jones's mother of "bullying, racism, and disrespect."

Mills, 27, publicly addressed the dispute in a social media post last December, detailing her experiences with Jones's mother. She stated that she had attempted to clear the air at the beginning of the year for their daughter's sake, but her request was ignored. Mills emphasized that she would not tolerate negative energy around their daughter on special occasions.
In response to Mills's claims, Jones's sister Terri reportedly accused Mills of fabricating the situation. A source close to the family expressed disappointment that Jones's relatives were excluded, contrasting it with his previous wedding to fellow Strictly dancer Katya Jones, where his family was present.
