A 22-year-old South Carolina woman has been denied bond after allegedly stabbing a Lyft driver 11 times in the head and then stealing his vehicle. Naziyha La’Nay Weatherall was arrested on April 22 after the incident in Greenville County.

According to prosecutors, Weatherall requested a Lyft from her apartment complex. When the driver arrived, she allegedly attacked him, stabbing him multiple times before commandeering his car. The driver was found with serious injuries and transported to a local hospital.

During a court hearing, the driver's wife spoke on his behalf, detailing the ongoing physical and emotional impact of the attack. She stated that her husband is still dealing with the aftermath more than four months later and was too shaken to attend the hearing. She described the alleged conduct as "extremely violent" and expressed concern for community safety if such violence could occur during a routine service.

The defense argued that Weatherall was experiencing a severe mental health crisis at the time of the incident, citing diagnoses of schizophrenia and frequent hallucinations. Her attorney stated that she believed she was being trafficked and panicked, and that she had intended to go to a police station to report her fears. Her mother had reportedly called the police station in advance to inform them of her daughter's intended arrival.

Prosecutors emphasized the severity of the alleged violence and the danger Weatherall poses. The judge denied bond, ordering a psychological evaluation for Weatherall, who remains in custody.

Lyft confirmed that the company is supporting the driver and his family and has permanently removed the rider's account. The company is also cooperating with law enforcement. Weatherall faces charges including attempted murder, carjacking resulting in bodily injury, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
