More than a dozen members of the Soros family have collectively contributed over $1.6 million to Congressional candidates' midterm campaigns, according to recent disclosures. This influx of donations indicates the family's significant political engagement extends beyond patriarch George Soros and his son Alex, who assumed leadership of the family's $25 billion empire in anticipation of the 2024 presidential election.
Jonathan Soros, George Soros' son from his first marriage, and his wife, Jennifer Allan Soros, led the family's contributions with a combined $380,000 directed towards House and Senate races across the country. Jonathan Soros, a Harvard Law graduate and founder of the private investment firm One Madison Group, met Jennifer Allan Soros during Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, and both have remained active in political advocacy.
Andrea Soros, another daughter of George Soros from his first marriage, has contributed $26,000 to various candidates this midterm cycle. Her husband, Eric Colombel, leads a nonprofit organization focused on Buddhism. Andrea Soros was recognized in 2010 as one of the wealthiest heiresses.
Robert Soros, George Soros' eldest son, and his wife, Jamie Singer Soros, jointly donated $40,200 to midterm races. Singer Soros serves on the board of trustees for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Robert Soros manages the family office Soros Capital Management.
Even the younger generation of the Soros family is involved in political contributions. Julien Soros, a tech founder and grandson of George Soros, and Eliza Soros, a filmmaker and his sister, together donated $2,200.
Jeffrey Soros, George Soros' nephew and a Hollywood film producer, contributed $12,500. His mother, Daisy Soros, who is married to George Soros' brother Paul, also donated $7,000.
The family's contributions have supported a range of Democratic candidates. Among those receiving support are Abdul El-Sayed, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan; James Talarico, a candidate for Senate in Texas; Scott Colom, running for Senate in Mississippi; and Sarah McBride, a representative seeking re-election in Delaware. Jessica Killin, a House candidate in Colorado, who previously served as chief of staff to Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, also received donations.
Alex Soros, the fourth of George Soros' five children, has channeled approximately $103 million into the midterms, largely through political action committees established in his name and his father's. This financial activity is on track to potentially surpass the election spending record set by George Soros in previous midterm elections. Alex Soros, who took over leadership of his father's financial empire, has stated he is "even more political" than his father.
