Four children and two adults were found dead Tuesday evening in a Mechanicville, New York, home, officials have confirmed. The discovery was made by police responding to a welfare check at the John S. Moore Homes apartment complex, located approximately 20 miles from Albany.

Responding officers found the six individuals deceased inside the residence after callers reported not hearing from the residents for several days. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, pending family notification. A resident of the complex told the Times Union that the victims were a mother, her four children, and their grandmother.

The resident described the grandmother as being "with (the mother) every single day to help her." Another neighbor stated the grandmother and mother were "inseparable" and "like best friends."

Mechanicville police stated there is no ongoing threat to the public, but the cause and manner of death remain under investigation. The New York State Police are assisting the Mechanicville Police Department in the case. The process will involve "appropriate investigative and medical examiner processes," according to a police statement.

The Mechanicville Central School District has made counseling available to high school students who may be affected by the tragedy, as the deaths occurred near the end of the school year. Some students were reportedly seen at the scene on Wednesday morning.

This is a developing story.
