The sisters of a missing Australian tourist are pleading for information as the search intensifies for Sally Grace Contarino, 26, who disappeared in the Las Vegas area over three weeks ago. Contarino was last seen on June 20 leaving a supermarket in Skye Canyon, northwest Las Vegas, en route to Mount Charleston for a hike.
Lauren and Amy Contarino believe their sister may have accepted a ride from someone in a vehicle after her hiking trip. They shared that Contarino's scent, traced by a police canine unit, ended abruptly on the road to Mount Charleston, suggesting she may have been picked up. Her scent was also detected on a hiking path before going cold.
Contarino was due to fly home to Melbourne on June 21 but missed her flight. She had checked out of Bungalows Hostel that morning but left her luggage in storage. Concerns for her welfare grew when she failed to retrieve her belongings.
"We believe that someone out there may know something," said Amy Contarino, speaking through tears. "It's hard to say if she made it back down and got a lift into town or not from there. We just want our sister home safely."
Sally Grace Contarino had visited the Las Vegas area multiple times and enjoyed the local hiking trails. Her sisters describe her as an adventurous and confident solo traveler. They are considering hiring a private investigator to supplement the ongoing police efforts and have traveled to Las Vegas to assist in the search. The sisters stated there is no indication Contarino planned to stay in the U.S. without informing her family, leading them to believe something has gone wrong.
Local residents have been actively involved in the search, with volunteers reviewing maps, bus routes, hiking trails, and CCTV footage. The "Real Vegas Locals" social media group has been coordinating efforts, sharing local knowledge of the areas and analyzing information to assist investigators.
Contarino arrived in the U.S. on June 13 and was last seen on June 20. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating her disappearance.
