Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a stroke at his son's hockey game, according to his doctor and congressional office. Murphy will miss the next several weeks of votes as he undergoes rehabilitation.

Dr. Jose Suarez, chief of Neurosciences Critical Care at Johns Hopkins Hospital, stated that Murphy experienced a "small hemorrhagic stroke" but has shown "tremendous progress." The senator was treated at Johns Hopkins since the incident on Nov. 1, which caused numbness in his left arm.

"The doctors are very encouraged by the progress I’ve made so far," Murphy said Friday. "In order to take my recovery seriously and get back to work on the quickest timeline possible, I will be spending several weeks at a rehabilitation center after being discharged from the hospital today."

Murphy, 53, expressed gratitude for the support he and his family have received and thanked the medical staff at Johns Hopkins. He added that he is staying engaged with his team and colleagues remotely to ensure legislative priorities and constituent services continue without interruption.

Murphy is not up for reelection until 2030. He had been traveling to support Democratic candidates in midterm elections.
