Actress Selma Blair has been charged with two additional assault counts for allegedly kicking a police officer and a nurse after being removed from a flight. The charges stem from an incident that occurred late Sunday after Blair was aboard a Delta plane traveling from Los Angeles to New York.
Blair was arrested on Sunday evening after airport officials responded to a call about a physically abusive passenger on the flight. According to CBS News, audio from air traffic control indicated a pilot requested medical assistance, reporting a "bloody nose" and "some bite marks" from the passenger. Two flight attendants were injured, with one requiring hospitalization.
The FBI issued Blair, 54, a federal summons for assault within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States. The two new charges filed in state court occurred after she was taken off the plane. Prosecutors allege that Blair assaulted a nurse once she was at the hospital and also kicked a police officer while being transported in an ambulance.
During a court appearance regarding the additional charges, Blair's attorney requested that the judge consider the actress's "body of work," referring to her as the "gold standard." The judge stated that she should not receive "special treatment."
Blair has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has since been released on bail. Representatives for the actress told the BBC that she "experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct." Blair is known for her roles in films such as "Legally Blonde," "Cruel Intentions," and "Hellboy."
