Savannah Guthrie released an emotional video plea on Instagram on July 27, 2026, directly addressing the individual(s) responsible for the kidnapping of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. The 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home more than 25 weeks prior.
Experts suggest Guthrie's direct appeal, in which she states her family is "in agony" and "will never stop looking for her," could represent a new line of communication in the case. NBC's Erin McLaughlin reported that the timing of the message might be a response to new developments, though law enforcement has not provided recent public updates on the investigation.
"It's not clear why Savannah decided to release this message now, but it could be a response to a potential new line of communication," McLaughlin stated. "Experts say the language appears to be pointed at whoever committed the crime though law enforcement have not provided any public updates in the investigation recently."
In the video, Savannah Guthrie urged her mother's abductor(s) to "Do the right thing now." She implored them to "Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her." Guthrie described the family's ongoing suffering, saying, "Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed." She emphasized the family's unwavering commitment to finding Nancy Guthrie, adding, "We have done our part, and we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her and feel that hole in our hearts."
Addressing the perpetrator(s) more broadly, Guthrie said, "The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place. I truly believe it is never too late to do right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end. For all of us. No matter where we've been and what we've done, I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice."
