Russia struck the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv with drones and missiles overnight on Tuesday, killing two people and injuring at least 10, according to local authorities. The attacks ended a pause in strikes that had coincided with a visit by U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who arrived in Kyiv for their first official visit in a renewed push to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Damage and fires were reported in at least five districts of the capital, Ukraine's State Emergency Service stated. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that civilian infrastructure was damaged in at least 16 locations.
In the Holosiivskyi district, a 26-story non-residential building was hit. Elsewhere in the same district, a fire spread from one non-residential building to another. Rescuers saved one person during a search and evacuated two individuals from an apartment in a 16-story residential building.
In the Solomianskyi district, people were trapped in a five-story residential building. At least 10 people were rescued there, the emergency service reported. Fires were also recorded in the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts.
