Ruby Rose was recently hospitalized after sustaining two broken ribs in an accident at her home. The incident occurred when the US-based Australian actress slipped off the ledge of her backyard swimming pool.
Rose, 40, documented the event on Instagram Stories, sharing a clip of herself attempting to use a hose to spray her garden which overlooked the pool. She lost her footing and fell into the water, striking her ribs on the pool's edge. In the video, Rose appeared distressed as she thrashed in the water and clutched her ribs.
"RIP to my ribs, and the rest of my summer. They are broken, multiple. Straight to hospital, did not pass go or collect $200," she wrote, accompanied by a laughing-crying emoji. She also posted on Threads, stating, "One second I'm here talking to you. The next I'm in the hospital with two broken ribs. What a bloody Monday."
This is not the first time Rose has faced significant injury. In 2019, she was hospitalized after a stunt for her role in The CW's Batwoman. At the time, she believed she had fractured a rib, but it was later revealed she had two herniated discs in her spine. She told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the injury was terrifying and could have led to paralysis if not addressed immediately.
Reflecting on the 2019 incident in an interview with TV Week, Rose mentioned that the memories were so traumatic that she attended a trauma facility for three months in 2021 to learn how to discuss it without fainting. She described the injury as "horrendous" and stated she felt "so very alone throughout the whole experience."
Earlier this year, Rose revisited the trauma of the Batwoman injury during her appearance in the SBS docu-series, The Hospital: In the Deep End. The show also touched upon a previous car crash where she was rendered unconscious after being ejected through the windshield. Following that accident, she was hospitalized for many weeks and required assistance with basic mobility, relying on nurses for care.
