Five-time NBA champion Ron Harper has become the latest public figure to be duped by artificial intelligence, mistakenly responding to an AI-generated video of a woman appearing to be a UCLA volleyball player discussing her "favorite position." The video, which has circulated online, features the AI-generated persona, known as Lola Melone, responding suggestively to the question before being informed it was intended to be about volleyball positions.
Harper, the father of Spurs star Dylan Harper and Celtics guard Ron Harper Jr., commented "You said it..." on the clip. Despite numerous users pointing out that the video was AI-generated, Harper's comment remained visible on the platform X for an extended period, garnering significant attention and views.
Harper, a prominent defensive player during his career, won three championships with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s and two more with the Los Angeles Lakers in the early 2000s. The incident highlights the increasing sophistication of AI-generated content and the challenges in distinguishing it from real media.
