RJ Mitte, an actor best known for his portrayal of Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed television series "Breaking Bad," died Monday at his home in Texas. He was 34 years old.

Mitte's representative confirmed his death in a statement, saying, "It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of our client, RJ Mitte." The statement did not provide a cause of death, but TMZ reported, citing a county official, that his death was a suicide and an investigation was ongoing.

Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age three and often spoke about his experiences with the condition. In "Breaking Bad," which aired from 2008 to 2013, his character also had cerebral palsy, a role that brought him significant recognition.

The actor's death has prompted an outpouring of tributes, including from "Breaking Bad" co-star Bryan Cranston, who described himself as heartbroken. Mitte's role in the series propelled his career, opening doors to further opportunities in television and film.

Mitte had recently reflected on the end of "Breaking Bad," noting in a podcast interview last week that the show had set an "unobtainable" bar for his career. He also spoke candidly in text messages obtained by the Daily Mail about personal difficulties he faced.

In October 2025, Mitte proposed to his fiancée, Kennedy Suarez, at a charity event benefiting United Cerebral Palsy. His fiancée took to Instagram to share the news at the time.

Mitte appeared in 56 episodes of "Breaking Bad," playing the son of Bryan Cranston's character, Walter White, a chemistry teacher who turns to manufacturing methamphetamine. His performance earned him widespread acclaim and made him a recognizable figure in Hollywood.
