Nearly a decade after their contentious rivalry on 'The Bachelor Australia,' reality television personalities Keira Maguire and Alex Nation have reconciled. The two stars, who clashed during Richie Strahan's 2016 season of the show, reunited on the new season of 'The Traitors,' where they revealed that the experience helped them move past their long-standing feud.
Their initial conflict on 'The Bachelor Australia' was a significant storyline, with Nation emerging as an early favorite and Maguire taking on the role of an outspoken antagonist. Their disagreements in the mansion escalated to public spats in interviews and on social media, with Maguire reportedly making comments about Nation's use of her sexuality for attention. However, both Maguire and Nation stated that the passage of time has allowed them to see each other differently and that they can barely recall the original causes of their dispute.
"We're a lot older than when we first went on TV. Like it's been 10 years, even since we first met," Maguire told Daily Mail Australia. "Like I actually forgot why we were fighting." Nation added that they had "grown into the women that we are now, and I think we respected each other for who we were as women now."
Maguire joked that their relationship has evolved to a point where Nation is like family, stating, "I also say, like, she's like family to me, I can't get rid of her." Nation echoed this sentiment, saying, "I feel like you feel like family. I know that sounds a bit cliché."
Despite their reconciliation, the stars acknowledged they likely will never fully agree on the events of the past. Maguire explained they chose not to issue apologies because their individual recollections of the situation differ. "I didn't apologize for anything... we agreed to disagree that we all had our own version of the truth," she said. Nation added, "I feel like if we tried to like apologise for things would go round and round in circles."
The pair also discussed their experiences with cosmetic procedures. Nation shared that her beauty routine includes Botox and Hydrafacials, along with maintaining her hair color. Maguire, who has previously had a breast enhancement, now focuses on treatments that enhance natural features rather than making drastic changes. She stated a preference for biostimulators that promote natural collagen production.
Both Maguire and Nation expressed strong reservations about extreme cosmetic trends, specifically mentioning the 'Barbie waist' surgery, also known as rib contouring. This procedure, which involves altering the rib cage to achieve a smaller waistline, has reportedly been sought by some reality television stars. Maguire asserted, "I would not remove my ribs for anybody. Just get a little bit of liposuction!" Nation added, "It sounds painful. I mean, I'm up for like whatever but that's where I draw the line."
Nation also reflected on how motherhood has influenced her perspective on beauty standards and societal pressures, particularly concerning social media. "But also I have a daughter and I think beauty standards, and especially social media, it can be a vicious beast and, like, I'm raising a daughter, I would want her to be happy in her own skin," she stated. While she finds personal happiness in procedures like Botox and facials, she considers more drastic anatomical alterations to be dangerous.
'The Traitors' premiered on Channel 10.
