Prince William is reportedly experiencing an "I told you so" sentiment regarding his brother Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent return to the United Kingdom. According to a source speaking with Page Six, William was less optimistic than King Charles about the potential for a peaceful reintegration for the Sussexes.
The insider stated that while there was "cautious optimism" that Harry and Meghan might return with "silent dignity," William was not convinced. "He was proven right because right now he’s having an ‘I told you so’ moment," the source added.
William has reportedly not spoken to Harry and "hasn’t gotten over all the stress" that the couple's previous actions caused, particularly in light of health concerns within the royal family. The source noted that Catherine, Princess of Wales, who announced her cancer diagnosis in 2024, had "finally reached remission, only for them to come back to the UK and create more stress for everyone."
Harry and Meghan controversially stepped back from their royal duties in 2020, relocating to Montecito, California. Last month, they made the decision to return to the UK, reportedly driven by a desire to be closer to King Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment, and to foster family relationships for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Last week, King Charles confirmed that Harry and Meghan would not resume working royal roles. A letter, sent on behalf of the King by the family's lord chamberlain, stated that the couple cannot use their His and Her Royal Highness titles and are now "private citizens with commercial and charitable interests." The letter also ruled out any possibility of the Sussexes maintaining a "half-in and half-out" status, preventing them from being working royals while pursuing independent business ventures.
Sources claim that the Sussexes are "frustrated" with the wording of the King's letter, which they reportedly feel was "deliberate" and was allegedly sent to the media without their consultation. Harry and Meghan have not yet publicly responded to the King's communication.
