Lady Eliza Spencer, a cousin of Prince Harry, described the Duke of Sussex's return to the United Kingdom as "exciting." Spencer, the daughter of Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer, told The Mirror UK on Wednesday, "We would love to be able to find some time to visit."
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, reportedly landed in Birmingham with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, on Wednesday. The family traveled from Los Angeles via private jet for the 10-hour journey. This development comes six years after the couple stepped down from their royal duties and moved away from England. The family has not yet made a public appearance since their arrival.
An insider suggested that King Charles III's cancer diagnosis, publicly shared in February 2024, was a significant factor in Prince Harry's decision to return. The monarch reportedly is looking forward to spending time with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Prince Harry and Markle will not resume official royal duties and plan to continue their business ventures while residing in a non-royal residence.
Prince Harry had previously hinted at a potential move back to the U.K. In September 2025, he spoke with singer Joss Stone at the WellChild Awards. Stone, who had recently moved back to the U.K. from Tennessee, shared that Harry commented on the quality of schools and the importance of community for children. "He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children," Stone told Hello! magazine at the time. "It was nice to share that with him because it’s exactly why we felt drawn to come back."
Stone recalled Harry expressing genuine interest in how she was settling back into the U.K. and speculated at the time, "Maybe Harry will move back too. That would be nice."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been living in Montecito, California, since 2020 and reportedly are not selling their residence there.
