Progressive podcaster Jennifer Welch faced backlash for joking about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk during a recent episode of her podcast, "I've Had It." The comments were made as Welch and co-host Angie Sullivan celebrated Democratic victories in the midterm elections, which they characterized as a significant cultural shift.

During the November 6 episode, Welch read aloud social media posts mocking Republican losses. One such post suggested "digging up Charlie Kirk and doing it again," which elicited laughter from Welch and Sullivan. Kirk was killed in September 2025.

Welch later stated that Kirk was "shot by a MAGA person," referencing the suspect, Tyler Robinson, 22. Prosecutors have alleged Robinson confessed to the killing, stating he "had enough of his hatred," and did not espouse MAGA views. Welch also expressed her patriotism, stating that the "clever" jokes from liberals made her "love this country."

The remarks quickly drew condemnation online. Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for Turning Point USA and a friend of Kirk's, responded on X (formerly Twitter), calling Welch an "ugly, demonic witch who laughs at the murder of an innocent man." Political commentator Rita Panahi described Welch and Sullivan as "thoroughly disgusting" and "monsters." Journalist Glenn Greenwald criticized the incident, noting that "very few on the left will object to this even on just basic decency or humanity grounds."
