New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has disavowed inflammatory remarks made by streamer Hasan Piker concerning Hamas, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and Iran's nuclear ambitions. In an interview with Fox News' Shannon Bream for "Fox News Sunday," Mamdani clarified that he does not share Piker's views on these matters.

"I would say those are all things that I disagree with, and I've made very clear about my own opinions," Mamdani stated. He also defended his willingness to engage with Piker, a far-left streamer, explaining, "I think that it's important to both be able to be confident in your opinions and be able to have a conversation with those that you disagree with and those that you agree with, because if you just surround yourself with people who echo everything that you say and think, you're going to just end up at home looking at a mirror."

Piker has drawn criticism for past statements, including suggesting Hamas is more moderate than Israel, implying the U.S. deserved the 9/11 attacks, and stating the Middle East would be more stable with a nuclear-armed Iran. His rhetoric has been highlighted by Republicans seeking to label progressive and Democratic socialists as extremists. During a recent election livestream, Piker also expressed desires for former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk to face jail time.

Mamdani's past appearances with Piker have led to questions about their political alignment. The interview also touched on Mamdani's membership in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and his campaign promises for New York City, such as a $30 minimum wage and free public transit.
