A North Carolina mother has described a frightening road rage encounter on Interstate 85, during which a driver allegedly cut her off, repeatedly brake-checked her vehicle, and made death threats while her young son was in the backseat. The incident occurred Friday afternoon.
Myeka Dunn told FOX8 WGHP that she was driving to drop her son off when a dark blue sedan swerved into her lane. After Dunn honked her horn, the driver of the sedan attempted to cut her off and began brake-checking her. Dunn then began recording the incident as the driver followed her.
The video appears to show the driver leaning out of his vehicle and shouting, "You are going to die!" and "I could kill you!" Dunn stated that her windows were partially down, allowing the driver to see her child, but he did not seem to regard the presence of the child. Her 3-year-old son can be heard crying in the background of the recording.
Dunn contacted both 911 and the Guilford Metro non-emergency line. She reported the incident and informed dispatchers she had captured video evidence. Dunn expressed frustration with the response she received, stating, "To know that they're still out there and nothing has been done about it is absolutely frustrating and scary."
Christine Moore, Deputy Director of Operations, acknowledged that the dispatcher did not follow proper protocols. "We did. However, we did not enter all of the appropriate information that we should have… She [the dispatcher] did enter the lookout. She didn’t enter all of the information that was pertinent, including that there was a video involved that the officer may want to see," Moore said.
The Greensboro Police Department stated that officers issued a be-on-the-lookout alert (BOLO) after receiving reports of a dark blue sedan driving erratically and yelling at other motorists. Investigators have since identified the driver involved, but no arrest has been made. According to the department, the victim was advised on how to obtain a warrant for a misdemeanor charge from the Magistrate's Office, as the incident occurred outside the presence of officers. Dunn also told WRAL News that she is in the process of obtaining a misdemeanor warrant against the driver.
