Jason Williams, a 2006 NBA champion with the Miami Heat, has publicly rejected former NBA player Enes Kanter's recent commentary on transgender athletes participating in women's sports. Williams described Kanter's actions as an attention-seeking tactic during an appearance on the "Hoopin’ N Hollerin'" podcast.

"Enes Kanter stupid. F–k he doing, dog? Seriously. Why does he want to play with women? Why does he need attention?" Williams questioned. "Just do a podcast or some s–t. Why the f–k do you want to play with girls? I don’t get that, dog."

Williams, who has a personal investment in women's sports through his daughter Mia, a college softball player, stated his disinterest in seeking attention. "The last thing I want in life is attention. That’s the last thing. I’m not here for attention," he said.

Kanter has recently garnered attention for his statements regarding transgender athletes in women's and girls' sports. He declared his eligibility for the 2027 WNBA Draft after posting a video to social media stating he identified as a woman. The WNBA has since stated that Kanter is not eligible to participate in the draft.

Kanter was reportedly escorted out of a WNBA game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a confrontation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud. Kanter was in attendance at the game, held at Wintrust Arena.

Former NBA player Enes Freedom (Kanter) wears an orange WNBA hoodie and sits at a table with a matching WNBA hat.
