The Metropolitan Police has launched a criminal investigation into Reform UK following allegations that the political party broke the law concerning foreign funding. The investigation was initiated after a broadcast by Channel 4 News and Verbatim Investigations last week.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the force had received a number of reports related to donations and polling involving a political party. The allegations under investigation pertain to potential offenses under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.
Detectives are coordinating closely with the Electoral Commission and the Crown Prosecution Service as the inquiries progress. The police are also seeking to obtain footage related to the Channel 4 News broadcast as part of their investigation.
A spokesperson for Reform UK stated that the party denies any wrongdoing and pledges to cooperate fully with the investigation. The party declined to comment further while the investigation is active.
