Megyn Kelly sharply criticized Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) on her show Monday, labeling the Democratic lawmaker a "nutcase" following a CNN interview where Stevens attempted to explain her eleventh-hour endorsement of Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers.
Stevens, who had previously supported Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, faced questions from CNN's Anderson Cooper about her decision to back Rogers. Stevens stated that El-Sayed "has been getting angrier and angrier" and that she wanted to support the Democratic nominee.
Kelly, in her criticism, suggested Stevens' reasoning was insufficient. "The Democrats made their own bed. I didn’t nominate Haley Stevens. I thought she was bizarre," Kelly said, referring to Stevens' endorsement. "This person should not have been your representative. She should not have been one of your last final candidates."
The endorsement followed a period of internal conflict within the Democratic campaign, including Stevens' fiancé, Jason Turkish, publicly criticizing El-Sayed. Stevens had also demanded El-Sayed disavow a PAC ad that her campaign claimed contained antisemitic messaging. El-Sayed's campaign had previously asked Stevens to refrain from further involvement in campaign events.
Kelly also commented on El-Sayed's recent interview on CBS's "60 Minutes," calling him "a problem" and suggesting the party's choice of a "moderate" in Stevens was a misstep.
