The "pop-up store" for Meghan Markle's lifestyle brand, As Ever, located in a bookstore owned by friends in Montecito, California, appears to have been significantly downscaled. A shopper who recently visited the Godmothers bookshop reported that the display, previously occupying a large area, has been reduced to a small table.
The shopper noted the absence of Meghan's widely publicized jams, including her blackberry fruit spread. Instead, the current display reportedly features a few boxes of chocolates, several candles, a honey set, and a bowl of edible flower sprinkles. A publicity photo of Markle for her brand was also present.
According to the shopper, staff at the Godmothers bookshop indicated that the reduction in merchandise was not due to products selling out. "The salespeople confirmed it when I asked discreetly. All they said was, 'They refresh merchandise on a regular basis'," the shopper stated on social media.
Previously, the As Ever section at Godmothers bookshop had a much larger selection. The bookshop is owned by Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, a literary agent, and Victoria Jackson, a cosmetics mogul, who are neighbors of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Markle and Oprah Winfrey attended the store's opening in 2024.
Recent reports indicated that Meghan's As Ever website had nearly 400,000 American visitors between January and May of this year. Earlier in 2026, a website glitch inadvertently revealed extensive inventory levels for the brand, with internet users discovering over 650,000 units of products like jams and flower sprinkles. The inventory reportedly included more than 220,000 jars of spread, 30,000 jars of honey, nearly 90,000 candles, and over 110,000 jars of tea. Additionally, over 77,000 bottles of wine were listed as unsold.
A source familiar with As Ever told Newsweek at the time that the brand was set to "double in size," calling the website traffic figures a success. Following the revelation of inventory levels, the As Ever website was updated with purchase limits. Markle has stated her intention to increase stock levels for international launches.
