Megan McKenna has revealed she was hospitalized for a week due to a 'dangerous' ovarian health condition, which developed shortly after her UK home was burglarized by machete-wielding intruders. The 33-year-old former TOWIE star detailed on the "Great Company With Jamie Laing" podcast how the stress of her IVF journey and the home invasion took a significant toll on her physical and emotional well-being.

McKenna and her husband, Oliver Burke, faced a challenging path to conceive their 21-month-old son, Landon. During the IVF process, McKenna was diagnosed with ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a condition caused by an overreaction to fertility drugs. She experienced severe pain and was hospitalized when her ovaries became dangerously swollen.

"I was in hospital for a week because I got OHSS, which is hyperstimulation of your ovaries," McKenna shared. "It's really dangerous when they rupture. So I was being monitored, and oh my god, the pain! It was just, it was awful. I felt like I was six months pregnant."

She explained that initially, she planned to freeze her eggs, but tests revealed her womb lining was too thin to support an embryo. McKenna underwent procedures to thicken her womb lining and the IVF process, which involved numerous injections. Out of 16 eggs thawed, only two developed into viable embryos. The OHSS diagnosis and subsequent hospitalization caused a delay in her pregnancy journey.

"Maybe me getting ill with the OHSS happened for a reason because it kind of delayed me falling pregnant," she reflected. "Things happen in a funny way. When it did happen, I felt like I was in a bit of a better place."

The health scare occurred just days after McKenna experienced a terrifying home invasion. She described waking up to her house shaking and confronting three masked men armed with machetes and baseball bats who were attempting to break into her bedroom. The intruders had created a hole in a fake wall leading to her dressing room.

McKenna recounted calling the police, who arrived within minutes, but she also defied their instructions not to engage with the intruders. Fearing for her dog's safety, she approached the men while naked and bleeding from a cut foot. One of the intruders took her jewelry before they left.

"I was shaking. I'd cut my foot. There was blood everywhere. It was like a bloody murder scene. And then I'm standing naked, and they just left with nothing, with nothing else," she said.

McKenna stated she felt her home was targeted and that the experience left her feeling unsafe in the UK. She and Burke later made a permanent move to Germany. The burglary incident was particularly difficult as it coincided with legal proceedings related to the crime, which she felt unable to participate in due to her IVF treatments. She also mentioned that the perpetrators, who were caught and tried, were later released.

This was not the first time McKenna had been a victim of burglary. In 2017, while starring on TOWIE, her first home was ransacked, resulting in the theft of valuable items and sentimental possessions. At the time, she speculated that thieves may have discovered her address through her appearances on the show.

McKenna has since stepped away from reality television to focus on her music career and work as a content creator from her home in Berlin.
