The former New Mexico ranch of four-time Oscar nominee Marsha Mason is on the market for $13.5 million. Located in Abiquiu Valley Farm, approximately 57 miles north of Santa Fe, the estate spans 228 acres along the Rio Chama River.

Mason, who relocated from Hollywood in the early 1990s, transformed a portion of the property into a biodynamic organic farm. The ranch's 70 acres of irrigated meadows were used for growing alfalfa, medicinal herbs, and other crops. Mason detailed her move from Los Angeles and the development of her herbal products business in her 2000 memoir, "Journey: A Personal Odyssey."

Property Features

The property includes a 6,500-square-foot main residence designed by architect Theodore Waddell, along with a 3,500-square-foot guesthouse. Equestrian facilities are highlighted by a 10-stall Morton pole barn and an outdoor dressage area. An event space with a kitchen and two apartments are also on the grounds. The main residence features a central atrium, a great room with dual fireplaces, a library, a formal dining room, and a gourmet kitchen.

Cody Lujan of Hall and Hall, who shares the listing, described the property as unique for its diverse appeal, attracting buyers interested in agriculture, hunting, or fishing. He noted that it "has just enough of everything."

Mason's Transition to Farming

In her 2002 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Mason spoke about the satisfaction she found in working the land, stating, "I can look out at the fields now and I can see this, this green, verdant painting and it gives me as much pleasure and satisfaction as a job well done acting." She later served as chairperson of the New Mexico Organic Commodities Commission. Mason also noted the financial challenges of operating the farm, admitting in a 2002 interview with Charles Osgood, "I'm getting poor here... Because I can't get a farm to pay for itself." She expressed concern that her acting career subsidized the farm.

The actress and state director eventually sold the property in 2014. The most recent owner is not identified. The current listing represents a $2.5 million price reduction from its previous $16 million asking price in 2024.

Mason, 84, earned her Oscar nominations for "Cinderella Liberty" (1974), "The Goodbye Girl" (1977), "Chapter Two" (1980), and "Only When I Life" (1982). She most recently appeared in the Hallmark+ film "Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story."
