U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke, his chief of staff announced Sunday. The 53-year-old Connecticut Democrat was taken to a hospital Saturday after experiencing numbness in his arm while attending his son's hockey game. Doctors confirmed he had a stroke and he has since been transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. "The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery," his chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, said in a statement. Murphy was reportedly examined by doctors who determined he had suffered a stroke.
