A man suspected of fatally stabbing his wife in their Queens home was found dead hours later in a nearby park, an apparent suicide, according to law enforcement sources. The incident is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide.
Joseph Azzaretto, 33, was captured on surveillance footage walking toward a minivan near the couple's Astoria residence shortly after he allegedly killed Mary Kate Golding, 34. Video obtained by The Post shows Azzaretto appearing nonchalant as he walks to the vehicle.
Authorities responded to the couple's home around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after Azzaretto allegedly called a family member and friend to confess to the killing, sources said. Golding was found dead with a knife still in her back.
Approximately six hours after the discovery of Golding's body, Azzaretto was found deceased, having apparently hanged himself from a tree in Astoria Park. His infant son was found alone with his mother; a friend of Golding's recovered the child.
This incident occurred about five years after Joseph Azzaretto's brother, Nicholas Azzaretto, killed their father during a violent altercation.
